Not being a teacher or not having experience in teaching makes it a bit of a challenge in choosing a math tutor or a company for tutoring. Dubai has become so developed and it has naturally attracted many people from all over the world to come and live here. That means that more schools have been established for the kids of parents who have come to migrate for work. It also comes as no surprise that tutoring companies have also been established. If your child needs a tutor for his math subject, for example, how do you choose which company to hire? How would you know that that company will be able to cater to your child’s needs? Without experience in hiring tutors before, it can be challenging. Let us help you with that.
Questions you need to ask when hiring a tutor
- How much does the tutor charge per hour? Quality does not always mean hiring the most expensive person you can find. There are companies out there that are in the range of your budget but provide you with amazing tutors. It’s also not to say that you should get the cheapest ones. Find someone that you can pay without having to stretch your budget too much.
- How often is the session and how long does it last? Effective tutoring happens 3 times per week, 2 at the very least. Having a session only once per week will just make the child forget what the lessons were the last week and there will be no consistency. This is especially true if your child is in grade school. One session should at least be an hour and a half and the ideal would be 2 hours. The reason for this is that the younger kids do not have a very long attention span. They get bored easily and their mind drifts off and then they get restless. They need breaks every now and then and tutors need to be patient with that. This is normal for kids at a very young age.
- Is the tutor certified? How long has he been teaching? If you are looking for a math tutor, you need to hire someone who has been certified. There are teachers who can teach different subjects but if you want the person you are going to hire to have a specific skill, then ask for someone who is certified. You would also want someone who has had a few years of experience in tutoring. Dubai schools can be a big challenge to kids so you need a person who is up to the task.
- What age group does the tutor like to work with? This is a very important question to ask. There are people who like certain age groups of students. There are those who can be very effective in teaching 9 to 12 year old kids but have absolutely no patience with 5 year olds. Just learn what they are comfortable with.
